Newsletter - October 2011

Hello everyone, trust all is well,

I have finalised our programme of adventures for 2012.

Impala continues to tick along and as far as the future is concerned we are going to quietly build up more adventures to some exciting destinations. As each comes online I shall send you all and email outlining each event in some detail.

One change that we will be introducing for most adventures will be an option for hotels alongside camping so that we can offer a cheaper base price for those of you who would rather camp, but as those of you who have been with me recently will know, as I am getting slightly older the hotel option becomes more attractive!!(Unless we are deep in the wilderness of a desert or Russian forest of course).

Impala Adventures 2012

April 23rd to May 7th Morocco High Atlas and The Sahara.

This adventure is running for the second time and uses the last two un-surfaced tracks across the High and Anti Atlas, before entering The Sahara from the delights of the Hotel Kasbah Azalay which sits on the banks of the Oued Draa at Mhamid El Gezlane.

The Sahara at this time of year can be very exciting as the stillness and serenity of the start of the day can by sunset to have turned into a billowing sandstorm. Our Wild campsites are very much dependant as to which direction the weather has turned so by late afternoon you will either be camped in the shadow of the dunes or in amongst the rocks of Fossil Valley.

After the desert we will be camping high in the foothills of the Atlas near Cascade D’Tizgi where you will be able to meet the eccentric Omar, who will if you take some milk down to the Cascade prepare a cup of coffee or a glass of mint tea and will even charge in that delightful Moroccan way for the pleasure of making it for you.

As always our journey back to the north of Morocco pauses in Marrakech so that a last visit to the maelstrom of life in The Place can be absorbed before the structure of Spain and beyond.

Further details on this adventure are one our web site.

Hotel Option: £2,700.00 per car (2 people)

Camping Option: £1,900.00 per car

August 27th to September 10th Russia, The Kola and White Sea.

What can I say: this adventure is astounding! The route that we take across the forests and lakes near Monchegorsk, The summer track along the ridge between Umba and Oktyabrsky and the old sand road running along the White Sea make this adventure a challenge of Camel Trophy proportions.

Both you and your car will be tested well here in the forests of Russia. We will be crossing rivers with bonnet high water, rock fields and marsh as well as working our way around the edge of a lake. Along The White Sea the tracks are sand with some exciting estuary crossings as well as mud through the forest.

Accommodation when we take it is varied: Kandalaksha is the Gateway town to the White Sea and here we will be staying at an old Party Hotel in its centre. Along the White Sea we have an option to stay in a friend of mine’s lodges built on a hill overlooking the sea whilst deep in the forest near Oktyabrsky we will stay at Frank’s guest house.

Further details on this adventure are on our web site.

Russia: £2,900.00 per car (2 People)

June 17th to June 23rd The South of England

After quite a few years of not running Greenlane events due to political pressure we know feel that the time is right to begin again, so here we have a new concept, a whole week of off road driving on an exciting route from Orcheston in the north of Wiltshire to Exmoor, Devon and Dorset before arriving back at Blackdown Lakes Campsite a week later.

The tracks range from chalk on grass and narrow tree lined Saxon roads, deep water on the military land near Tilshead and also tracks high above the sea along the Dorset Coast. Some of them are very exciting to drive, with one of the highlights at Eggardon Hill, an Iron Age fort with stunning views out to sea from the heights above Bridport.

The South of England £ 390 per car (2 people)
