Newsletter - October 2012

Forest Near MonchegorskAt the beginning of October Impala set up a stand at The Adventure Overland Show, because we felt that it was about time, that we got back “into the fray” so to speak. I very much enjoy showing people the delights and splendours of the countries that I have run adventures in and a show allows us to find  new clients to come and join us, to experience an adventure of a lifetime, travelling The Sahara, Russia and of course England and Wales. In fact quite a number of you who are reading this would have signed up to receive the Impala Newsletter during that sunny weekend in Northamptonshire.

The show was very successful for us and our adventure into the forests and lakes of Northern Russia in August 2013 was of particular interest to many, with ten visitors to the stand excited at the prospect of finding a way of joining us next year. I would urge any of you who are deciding to book to book soon as we only have three places left on this incredible adventure. I have included a link to download a booking form for you as well.

Morocco is always a popular destination, because it has deep roots with Southern Europe and looks to the north rather than the east, making it a safe adventure for us to enjoy. We are looking for five cars to complete the April adventure in The High Atlas and the Sahara, so if you would like to come just download the booking form and get ready to explore such delights as the Grotte D’ Akhiam, deep within the Atlas and of course the immensity of The Sahara itself with its unbelievably jewelled night skies.

Seeking Shade In The DesertImpala is running a new adventure to the west of Morocco, which will run down the Atlantic Coast and along the Oued Draa from its mouth to deep within Morocco as it crosses Lac Iriki. This adventure will  run from the 21st October to 4th November 2013. The roadbook for this adventure is being put together in January 2013 and the route will include pre-historic rock art sites as well as dunes, wildlife and Moroccan culture. If you would like to come with us then give me a ring on 07930 910870 or email me at neil@impalaadventures.co.uk.

Morocco, High Atlas And The Sahara

Desert Sunset Oued Idriss near Remlia1st to 15th April 2013

5 places left

This adventure is running for the second time and uses the last two un-surfaced tracks across the High and Anti Atlas, before entering The Sahara from the delights of the Hotel Kasbah Azalay which sits on the banks of the Oued Draa at Mhamid El Gezlane.

The Sahara at this time of year can be very exciting as the stillness and serenity of the start of the day can by sunset turn into a billowing sandstorm. Our Wild campsites are very much dependant as to which direction the weather has turned so by late afternoon you will either be camped in the shadow of the dunes or in amongst the rocks of Fossil Valley.

After the desert we will be camping high in the foothills of the Atlas near Cascade D’Tizgi where you will be able to meet the eccentric Omar, who will if you take some milk down to the Cascade prepare a cup of coffee or a glass of mint tea and will even charge in that delightful Moroccan way for the pleasure of making it for you.

As always our journey back to the north of Morocco pauses in Marrakech so that a last visit to the maelstrom of life in The Place can be absorbed before the structure of Spain and beyond.

Hotel Option: £2,700.00 per car (2 people)

Camping Option: £1,900.00 per car

Picos Mountains and Cantabria

Spain - Ebro Valley19th to 26th April 2013

The route for this new adventure for Impala is taking shape and we will be enjoying some tracks in The Picos Mountains as well as the Valle Del Ebro.

Beside the Rio Ebro near the village of Polientes is the Molina del Alto Ebro, which will be our base for the reconnaissance as well as during the later adventure. This converted mill sits in amongst the tracks that criss cross the Arroyo Ebro as well as the surrounding mountains and has an excellent restaurant and bar for our evening unwinds. The resulting adventure will be running later in 2013, so if you are interested then give me a ring. We are taking bookings now so follow this link to reserve a place with a deposit of £200.00: download

Russia, The Kola And White Sea

12th to 25th August 2013

3 places left

What can I say: this adventure is astounding! The route that we take across the forests and lakes near Monchegorsk, The summer track along the ridge between Umba and Oktyabrsky and the old sand road running along the White Sea make this adventure a challenge of Camel Trophy proportions .

Both you and your car will be tested well here in the forests of Russia, as you will be crossing rivers with bonnet high water, rock fields and marsh as well as working your way around the edge of a lake. Along The White Sea the tracks are sand with some exciting estuary crossings as well as mud through the Pine Forest. This forest has an extraordinary feel as it stretches all the way around the world at this latitude which is quite humbling as your eyes gaze out across its wilderness.

The rules of Russia insist that we stay at a hotel within seventy two hours of crossing the border, so that our movements can be traced easily .Even though this adventure will still be one of Wild Camps deep in nature, to conform to the rules we will stay at some lodges beside The White Sea as well as a magnificent Soviet hotel in the centre of Kandalaksha.

Further details are available on our web site and you can download a booking form to reserve a place.

Russia, The Kola and White Sea £2,600.00 per car (2 people)
